INTERNATIONALLY renowned DJ, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, has become the latest celebrity to be arrested for speeding!
Nkosinathi, who is popularly known as DJ Black Coffee, was arrested on the N1 highway near New Canada on Christmas Day.
Metro police officials, who didn’t want to be named, said the Dance Again hitmaker was caught driving at 200km/h in a 120km/h zone.
DJ Black Coffee couldn’t be reached for comment. But his manager, Amaru Da Costa, refused to comment saying he doesn’t know anything about it.
“I’m on holiday so I wouldn’t know,” he said.
DJ Black Coffee is not the only celebrity who has been arrested for speeding. In 2009 DJ Fresh, aka Thato
Sikwane, was caught driving a Volkswagen Touareg at 161km/h on the N1 south in Johannesburg.
In 2007 DJ Sbu was caught driving a sponsored Audi TT at 257km/h. He was arrested again in 2014 doing 176km/h in a 120km/h zone in a black Range Rover on the N1 North.
Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson, Simon Zwane, said traffic officials were manning a speed trap when they stopped a Maserati that was doing 200km/h.
“The driver, who is a popular DJ, was arrested on the spot,” said Simon.
JMPD spokesperson, Supt Edna Mamonyane, said DJ Black Coffee was taken to the Florida police station and was released on bail.
“He’ll appear in court on Monday,” she said.
