Father’s heartbreak after daughter gets shot
A 25-year-old woman has died after being hit in the head by a stray bullet while she was on the phone with her father.
Aaren O’Connor was sitting in her car outside her apartment complex in Chicago, Illinois on Friday when she was hit, US media reports.
She did not immediately die from the wound, but reportedly told her father, “My head hurts, my head hurts.”
The 25-year-old was found in her car unconscious after her boyfriend called her roommate to check up on her.
She was taken to hospital, where she died two days later on Sunday.
Her father David told CBS Chicago: “I didn’t realise at the time but I was just having the last conversation with my daughter.”
“Every few moments she said, ‘My head hurts. My head hurts.”
David O’Connor also said he pleaded with his daugther not move to Chicago from San Diego in California, ABC News reported.
She reportedly moved to be closer to her boyfriend and for a new job.
A fund has been set up in honour of Aaren, with the money donated going towards young people at risk in Chicago and to fund a scholarship.
“It gives her life meaning, and I so appreciate it,” Mr O’Connor told CBS.
