A 12-year-old driver who was illegally driving a car ran over and kills a 14-year-old pedestrian boy in Brakpan.

This heartbreaking incident has shaken the community as a 14-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 12-year-old on Saturday afternoon.

The incident has raised concerns as the young driver was not supposed to be behind the wheel to begin with.

Emergency services responded to the scene at the intersection of Northdene and Madeley streets around 1:45 PM after receiving reports of the accident. According to preliminary investigations by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the young driver allegedly failed to stop at a traffic sign before the collision occurred.

The victim was crossing the road at the stop sign when he was run over.

Paramedics pronounced the teenage pedestrian deceased upon arrival. Investigators discovered the involved vehicle, a Mazda, still at the location with the preteen driver present. Authorities immediately took the young motorist into custody along with their legal guardian.

Legal Proceedings Begin

The EMPD confirmed the 12-year-old suspect has been processed at Brakpan Police Station and will face charges in the local magistrate’s court. This tragic event has raised serious questions about child vehicle operation and road safety measures in residential areas.
