7de Laan Actor David Rees Hospitalised and In Need Of Surgery
David Rees, the talented actor who played Chris Welman in the popular Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan, is currently in hospital after suffering a heart attack. He urgently needs a double bypass surgery, but he does not have medical aid to cover the costs. A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to help him and his family.
How to help David Rees with his medical bills
The crowdfunding campaign was started by BackaBuddy, a platform that helps people raise funds for various causes. The campaign aims to raise R500 000 for David Rees’s surgery and recovery. As of 5 August 2023, the campaign had raised R31 000.
The campaign page states: “We come to you with a plea from the depths of our hearts. Actor David Rees, known for his unforgettable portrayal of Chris Welman in 7de Laan, has recently suffered a devastating heart attack. This unforeseen event has left him in urgent need of a double bypass surgery, placing not only physical but also emotional and financial burdens upon him and his family.”
The page also explains that David Rees does not have medical aid, which makes the situation even more challenging. It appeals to the public to extend a helping hand and donate whatever they can. “Your financial support will alleviate the immense strain on David’s family, providing them with the breathing room they so desperately need.”
7de Laan supports David Rees and asks fans to donate
The soapie 7de Laan, which airs on SABC2, also shared the campaign page on its Facebook account on Friday, 4 August. The soapie wished David Rees a speedy recovery and asked its fans to read the page and donate if they wish to assist the actor.
7de Laan is one of the longest-running soapies in South Africa, having started in 2000. David Rees joined the cast in 2016 as Chris Welman, a wealthy businessman and philanthropist who is married to Mariaan Welman (Deirdre Wolhuter). He is also the father of Alexa Welman (Carina Nel) and Rickus Welman (André Lötter).
