Early Life and Education

Abdul Khoza was born on August 14, 1987, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He is the younger brother of Sthembiso Khoza, a well-known actor, musician, radio presenter, and TV host. Their father holds the position of National President of the Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union. Abdul Khoza completed his schooling in KwaZulu-Natal and then joined the South African army, where he served for four years. Later, he worked as a fireman for three years before pursuing his passion for acting.

Abdul  gained prominence after winning the second SABC1 reality competition “Class Act” season in 2011. This victory marked the beginning of his acting career. He landed his first acting role as Two Step, a rising soccer star, in the second season of the SABC1 drama series “Intersexions” in 2013. Subsequently, he appeared in various television shows, including:

  • Qaphela in “Isibaya,” where he portrayed the ruthless son of a taxi boss.
  • Lester, a gangster, in “Kings of Jo’burg.”
  • Khutjo, a boxer, in “Ring of Lies.”
  • Detective in “Tempy Pushas.”
  • Bheki Buthelezi, a drug dealer, in “The Road.”
  • Doctor in “Uzalo.”
  • Nqoba in “The Wife.”
  • Cija in “Shaka Ilembe.”

Aside from his acting career, Abdul Khoza is also a musician who goes by the stage name “Shemeni.”

Awards and Nominations

Abdul has received recognition for his acting skills, including winning the Favourite Actor award at the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards (DMVCA) in 2022 for his role as Nqoba Zulu in “The Wife.” He also won the SAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Soap/Telenovela in 2022. In 2018, he was nominated for the SAFTA Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Soap/Telenovela for his role as Qaphela in “Isibaya.”

Abdul Khoza’s Personal Life

Abdul Khoza is married to Baatile Themane, whom he met at a mall in 2018. They married in a traditional ceremony on April 27, 2019, and have a daughter together. In March 2023, they announced that they were expecting another child. Abdul Khoza is known for his dedication to fitness and wellness, often sharing images of his toned physique on social media. He also practices meditation and yoga, which he showcases through his posts.
