Abdul Khoza Returns to Acting a Year After Quitting

Award-winning actor Abdul Khoza is making a surprise return to television with a major role in SABC1’s Uzalo.

This comes just a year after he announced that he was leaving the acting industry.

The Shaka iLembe star has joined the long-running drama series as Ma-Ten-Ten, the feared leader of the notorious Amantaliyane biker gang, a character expected to bring fresh conflict and power struggles to KwaMashu.

His casting marks an unexpected comeback after he previously revealed that he had decided to step away from acting.

Emotional farewell shocked fans

Khoza stunned fans last year when he announced he was quitting acting, sharing what he described as one of his final audition tapes.

He said he wanted aspiring actors to understand that auditions remain part of the profession regardless of experience and thanked supporters who had stood by him throughout his career.

The actor also opened up about the emotional toll the industry had taken on him, revealing that despite achieving success, he had struggled with feelings of isolation, exhaustion and challenges affecting his mental well-being.

New villain set to shake up KwaMashu

In Uzalo, Khoza’s character arrives following Nkunzi’s arrest with ambitions of taking control of the Mhlongo empire.

Although Ma-Ten-Ten appears sophisticated, charismatic and well-dressed, he is described as a dangerous criminal whose difficult childhood shaped his ruthless approach to survival.

He is joined by actress Londeka Sishi, who plays his foster sister, Lungsta. The character serves as the strategist behind the biker gang, using her intelligence to outsmart rivals and keep the organisation ahead of its enemies.

Fresh faces usher in new era

The Amantaliyane gang also introduces Mbuso Zulu as Cash Money, one of the group’s most feared members, while Lungani Mabaso reprises his role as Phefeni.

Phefeni returns after surviving a shooting during the robbery that led to Nkunzi’s imprisonment, with new connections to the biker gang promising more drama.

According to Uzalo producers, the arrival of the new characters will usher in a dramatic new chapter, bringing shifting alliances, revenge and fierce battles for power.

Stained Glass Productions co-founder Gugu Zuma-Ncube said the new additions were designed to challenge the show’s existing dynamics and introduce unpredictable storylines that will keep viewers guessing.
