Accused in AKA and Tibz Murder Case Alleges Police Want To Assassinate His Family

Lindani Ndimande, a taxi boss and one of the five individuals seeking bail in connection with the murders of AKA and his companion Tibello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, has claimed that the police are attempting to assassinate his family.

During his bail application, Ndimande, alongside his brothers Lindokuhle, Siyabonga, and Malusi, highlighted that they are prominent in the taxi industry.

According to Ndimande, his family has been subjected to continuous targeting by the National Intervention Unit (NIU), allegedly acting under the orders of police management.

Accused in AKA and Tibz Murder Case Alleges Police Plot to Assassinate His Family

He alleged that six of his family members were killed in confrontations with the NIU. In response to the threat, his brothers Siyabonga and Malusi sought refuge in Eswatini, fearing assassination by NIU members after witnessing the deaths of six other siblings in a taxi-related conflict in Mtubatuba. Ndimande, who claimed ownership of four taxis, is also wanted in connection with a taxi violence-related incident.

“My four siblings were killed by the NIU. They NIU had their faces covered when they came to my homestead in Empangeni to look for me and made it clear that they will kill my whole family if they did not tell them about my whereabouts. My co-accused at eSwatini, yet to be restrained, have been forewarned and fled to seek refuge in eSwatini,” he said in the affidavit.

Accusations of Coercion and Violation of Rights

According to Ndimande, his family is living under constant threat, with a bounty placed on their heads. He claimed that the police had assaulted him and coerced him into confessing to the murders.

Advocate Joe Wolmarans, Ndimande’s attorney, presented his client’s affidavit during the proceedings.

“The unlawful conduct of the members of the SAPS and forcing me to confess amounts to exceptional circumstances on its own. Their conduct amounts to a gross negation of my constitutional right.”

Despite his substantial income of R250,000 per month from his taxi business, Ndimande stated his ability to post R20,000 for bail. The bail application for the fourth accused will resume on Tuesday.
