Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, one of the legal representatives involved in the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, tragically dies. Mngomezulu, who represented Muzi Sibiya, one of the five accused in the case, died in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and son. We confirm his untimely passing in the early hours of the 10th [of] December 2024 at Vosloorus, [at] Thelle Mogoerane hospital,” read the statement from family spokesperson Dumisile Mngomezulu.

Family’s Request for Privacy

They have expressed gratitude for the support and prayers they have received from the public and asked for compassion as they navigate this period of mourning.
“In this time of grief, we ask for your compassion, space, and time to congregate as a family to decide on the [way forward] in the upcoming days. We thank you for the love and support in advance and ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers,” the family added.
Advocate Mngomezulu’s Role in the Trial
Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu played a significant role as part of the defence team in the ongoing trial surrounding the murder of Senzo Meyiwa, a former captain of Orlando Pirates and the South African national soccer team, Bafana Bafana. Meyiwa was tragically killed a decade ago in a case that continues to grip the nation.
As the representative for Muzi Sibiya, one of the accused, Mngomezulu was a key figure in the courtroom proceedings.
