The Voice SA Journey

Ami Faku’s musical journey faced its share of challenges. Before achieving recognition, she faced rejection twice during the pre-auditions of Idols SA. Undeterred by these setbacks, her family provided unwavering support and encouraged her to audition for “The Voice SA,” a decision that would change her life forever. Ami succeeded in making it to the top sixteen contestants in “The Voice SA,” which marked her major breakthrough in the music industry.

Debut Studio Album

On 27 September 2020, Ami Faku released her debut studio album, “Imali,” which subsequently achieved gold certification. The album featured collaborations with notable producers such as Blaq Diamond, Sun-El Musician, 37MPH, Eternal Africa, and Wilson. Her outstanding work earned her Best Female in Southern Africa nominations and Best Newcomer at the African Muzik Magazine Awards in November 2020.

Streaming Success

In 2020, Deezer recognised Ami Faku as the most-streamed female artist in South Africa, solidifying her status as a music industry powerhouse.

EP and Further Collaborations

Ami’s career continued to soar with the release of her EP titled “EA Wave Reimagines” in August. She also collaborated with Wichi 1080 on the single “Never Let You Go” and released “Lala Ngoxolo” featuring South African rapper Emtee.

In September 2021, Ami was featured on “Abalele” by Kabza de Small and DJ Maphorisa, which debuted at number 4 on Spotify Charts. In October 2021, she collaborated with singer Sha Sha on Nomfundo Moh’s single “Phakade Lami” and contributed to the “African Lullabies Part 1” compilation album by Platoon.
