Armed Gang Storms Durban School, Forces Teachers to Transfer Salaries
An armed gang stormed into Zamokuhle Primary School in KwaMashu, Durban, robbing teachers and staff of their personal belongings in a brazen daylight attack.
The suspects reportedly went further, forcing some educators to transfer their salaries into unknown bank accounts while under threat, leaving staff traumatised.

Security Overpowered as Staff Held Hostage
According to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, the gang gained entry to the school and subdued security personnel before confronting staff members.
Teachers were then accosted and robbed during the ordeal, with the attackers maintaining control of the premises for the duration of the incident, IOL reveals.
Investigation Launched Into Incident
Authorities have since opened a case of armed robbery, with police now investigating the attack and working to identify those responsible.
The education department confirmed it is cooperating with law enforcement agencies and has appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in tracking down the suspects.
MEC Condemns ‘Cowardly’ Attack
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education Sipho Hlomuka strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a cowardly act targeting educators.
He emphasised that teachers should be able to carry out their duties without fear, warning that such crimes undermine the safety of learning environments.
Support Offered to Traumatized Staff
Following the attack, psychosocial support services have been made available to affected teachers and staff.
Hlomuka also raised concern over a rise in similar incidents at schools, stressing the need to safeguard educational institutions from criminal activity.
He reiterated that schools must remain safe spaces for both teaching and learning, vowing continued efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
