Early Life

Aubrey Poo was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and grew up in a privileged environment. However, he gained firsthand experience with poverty while visiting friends and relatives, which shaped his perspective on life.

Education

For his high school education, Aubrey attended Pro Arte and later pursued his passion by completing a national diploma in drama at Pretoria Technikon, now known as Tshwane University of Technology.

Acting Career

Remarkably, Aubrey Poo’s journey toward acting began at the tender age of 12, and by 15, he had already set his sights on becoming an accomplished actor. Embarking on his acting journey at age 20, Aubrey Poo encountered his fair share of challenges but persisted with unyielding determination.

After completing his diploma at Pretoria Technikon, Aubrey Poo began making his mark in the industry. He was featured in the musical “Annie” and appeared on the television youth program “On Track.” Additionally, he performed in numerous Corporate and Industrial theatre programs.

In 2002, Aubrey Poo’s talent was recognized when he won the award for Best Performance by a New Actor for his role in the critically acclaimed play “Play@Risk,” directed by Megan Wilson.

Poo’s career continued to flourish as he landed the lead role of Gabriel in the musical “Far From the Madding Crowd” at the Durban Play House. He even had the opportunity to travel to Spain, where he performed in a musical tribute to Motown. In 2005 and 2006, Poo made his mark in the TV and film industry, starring in the Afrikaans film “Ouma se Slim Kind” and securing roles in popular shows such as “Gaz’lam,” “Muvhango,” “Zero Tolerance,” “Zone 14,” and Akin Omotoso’s “Nomzamo.”

In 2007, Poo showcased his versatility by playing the romantic lead in the stage musical “Soweto Story” and later took on the role of Tom Collins in the musical “Rent.” He also portrayed the character of documentary maker Themba in the SABC1 drama series “Usindiso (Redemption)” from December 2007 to March 2008.

Aubrey Poo’s talent extended to hosting, as he presented the first season of the SABC2 game show “The Right to Win” in 2011. He also appeared on SABC as the male presenter of “All You Need is Love” and took on the role of The Genie of the Lamp in Janice Honeyman’s pantomime, “Aladdin.” Poo’s creativity shone through as he co-wrote corporate theatre material for unveiling the FIFA 2010 Emblem in Berlin. He also co-wrote and performed the lead role in the highly successful Barnyard Theatre production, “Diamonds and Dust.”

Notably, Poo portrayed the character of youth pastor-in-training Lefa Letswalo on the e.tv soapie “Scandal!” from 2008 to 2011. He further showcased his acting prowess as Lieutenant Colonel Sello Kumeke, the commander of the Crime Prevention Unit, in the SABC2 police drama series “Streets of Mangaung” in 2012. In 2013, he had a starring role in the controversial SABC1 drama series “After 9.“

Poo has credited veteran actor James Ngcobo as his mentor throughout his career, guiding him through his acting journey. Poo finds great joy in acting on television, as it has been his lifelong passion.

Dancing Career

Beyond his proficiency in acting, Aubrey Poo’s artistic pursuits extended to dance. While his focus predominantly lies in acting, his background as a ballet dancer showcases his multifaceted creative abilities.
