Babes Wodumo Blasts DJ Tira and Arts Department Over Mampintsha Tribute Concert

Gqom star Babes Wodumo has strongly criticised DJ Tira and the Department of Arts and Culture for sidelining her in organising a tribute concert honouring her late husband, Mampintsha.

Taking to her Instagram in a post seen by TimesLive, Babes Wodumo expressed frustration over being excluded from the planning of the tribute event, despite her repeated efforts to initiate one herself.

“Everyone Wants to Use His Name for Their Pockets” — Babes Wodumo Speaks Out

In an emotional statement, Babes Wodumo accused those involved in the event of exploiting her husband’s legacy without her consent.

Nothing breaks my heart and soul [more] than this kwi industry. A tribute to Mampintsha but no-one spoke to me about it. Everyone just wants to use his name for their pockets,” she wrote.

She said she had long been planning her own tribute event in honour of “baba ka Sponge” — referring to her son — and questioned why others were proceeding without involving her.

“We Never Received a Cent” — Past Allegations Resurface

Babes Wodumo also reflected on a similar incident that allegedly happened on the day of Mampintsha’s funeral, when an event was hosted in his honour but, according to her, she and her son were left empty-handed.

I’m tired of calling people asking them to stop what they are doing… On the day of his funeral there was an event, and we never received a cent,” she said.

She also called out the Department of Arts and Culture for approving the event without consulting her or doing proper groundwork.

A Plea to DJ Tira: “Do It for Sponge”

In a direct message to DJ Tira, Babes Wodumo expressed her disappointment while also appealing to him as an old friend of Mampintsha.

“DJ Tira, ngicela ukhuze iteam yakho because we can’t be having the same conversation over and over again. I love you as my brother, but I wish you’d stand up as Mampintsha’s old friend and say ‘No!’… Do it for Sponge, because I would do the same for your kids,” she pleaded.

Babes Wodumo concluded by reaffirming her intentions to organise a proper tribute event that aligns with what Mampintsha would have wanted, referencing the one-man show proposal he had submitted before his passing.
