Hein Erasmus was shocked when one of his work colleagues told him about a baby that was left in the middle of the N1, at the 14th avenue turn-off.

None of the motorists had stopped for the infant, instead opting to drive around it.

“I understand that this is a hijacking hotspot but I can not believe that people just drove on,” Erasmus told the media.

Erasmus and his colleague returned to the scene, and found an ambulance was already there.

Erasmus held the baby girl for a short while before she was taken away by the emergency service – she was still alive and apparently still had her umbilical cord attached.

“The parents of the baby better pray I do not get hold of them,” Erasmus told the Roodepoort Record.
