However, FIFA’s disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and imposed a harsher penalty.
As a result, Zwane will miss South Africa’s remaining Group A fixtures.
The suspension includes the crucial clash against the Czech Republic.
Nevertheless, South Africa could still challenge the decision through an appeal.
FIFA explained that red cards usually attract a one-match ban.
However, sanctions can increase in cases involving foul play or violent conduct.
