Jaco Pieterse has officially stepped down from his position as principal at Bergview College, the institution confirmed on August 3, 2025.
This decision comes nearly ten months after Pieterse became embroiled in a highly publicised assault investigation that ultimately cleared him of any involvement.
Case Timeline: From Allegations to Exoneration
The controversy began in October 2024 when authorities investigated reports of an alleged assault involving a seven-year-old student at the school. Initial reports incorrectly connected Pieterse to the incident, sparking immediate public outcry and media attention.

After a thorough investigation, the National Prosecuting Authority determined there was no evidence linking Pieterse to the case. Investigators confirmed the principal had no contact with the child on the day in question, leading to complete clearance of all allegations.

Despite the official exoneration, Pieterse and his family faced continued harassment and threats from certain community members. School officials noted that commentary from prominent public figures exacerbated the situation, creating an untenable environment for the educator.
“The sustained pressure made it impossible for Mr. Pieterse to continue his duties effectively,” a school representative stated.
“This mutual separation allows all parties to move forward while maintaining the integrity of our educational institution.”
