TS Galaxy player Bernard Parker has attained his CAF C Coaching Diploma a month after suffering a horrific injury.
The Career-Threatening Injury
Parker had a horrific injury on October 18, 2023, when he broke his leg after a nasty tackle by Mamelodi Sundowns’ Bongani Zungu in a Carling Knockout Cup match. The tackle was so bad that the referee showed Zungu a straight red card, and Parker left the field in severe pain on a stretcher.
Parker underwent surgery to fix his broken ankle and is expected to be out of action for several months. His career may be in jeopardy.
Bernard Parker Gets CAF C Coaching Diploma
Not to waste his time on the sidelines, Parker recently graduated with a “C” Coaching Diploma from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Parker said he decided to pursue his coaching qualifications to gain more knowledge and skills in the sport he loves.
Parker is not the only former PSL player taking the CAF C Coaching Diploma course. Former Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele, former Mamelodi Sundowns stars Isaac Shai, Esrom Nyandoro and Manqoba “Shakes” Ngwenya, and other notable ex-players such as Bevan Fransman, Thela Ngobeni and Wayne Arendse have the diploma.
The CAF C Coaching Diploma is the first level of the continental coaching qualifications. Assistant coaches who want to sit on the bench in interclub competitions should have this. The next level is the CAF B Coaching Diploma for head coaches. The highest level is the CAF A Coaching Diploma, equivalent to the Uefa Pro License.
