Bheki Cele Tells Parliament Police Believed AKA’s Fiancée Anele Tembe Was Murdered
Former Police Minister Bheki Cele has reignited public debate over the tragic death of Anele Tembe, saying police detectives did not rule out murder during their investigations.
Cele made the remarks on Thursday while appearing before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing alleged police corruption.

A Case That Never Made It to Court
Tembe, who was engaged to slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, died in April 2021 after falling from the 10th floor of a Cape Town hotel. At the time, she was reportedly in AKA’s company.

According to EWN, Cele revealed that the investigative team had strong suspicions that Tembe was murdered.
“Former Police Minister Bheki Cele says the police investigated the murder of AKA’s fiancée, Anele Tembe, and they believe she was murdered.”
He questioned why prosecutors failed to take action despite evidence gathered.
Cele Questions Prosecutorial Decisions
Cele said he even took his concerns to President Cyril Ramaphosa as pressure mounted for a private prosecution.
“I went to the president, personally. I said: ‘Mr President, your minister of police is going to do something funny. He’s going to support the private prosecution’,” he told the committee.
Cele further stated prosecutors refused to issue a certificate required for private prosecution, stalling the matter.
“So you’re stuck in the middle. But now I know that that inquest, the magistrate that is there now is asking the question, why this thing was not enrolled? Because it’s an obvious case. You should ask the prosecutor that did not enroll it in this Western Cape.”
Social Media Erupts with Questions
Cele’s testimony has fueled widespread speculation online, with many users demanding answers about why the case was not properly pursued — especially given the explosive murder implication.
@Pinango007;
Why wasn’t he charged then? This madala is just exposing his criminal ways
@PeeloveNxumalo;
Well I hope he’s not trying to justify having him killed. If AKA pushed the girl off, they should’ve had him prosecuted. An innocent man died with AKA and he would still be alive had they decided to not be lawless thugs.
@thujahWenu;
I hope SA will always remember that Bheki Cele is a criminal too and he’s connected to Mamkhize and Kat Matlala etc, pls don’t forget who he is or what he’s doing in the dark just cos he’s singing now.
@Blaqbear;
What’s the point of telling us she was killed if you won’t say by who,and what evidence brought that deduction,and most importantly why wasn’t the perpetrator arrested.
@manslikesly;
lies,! and why is he bringing this up now. Why would they not arrest K.F if that was the case. The father didn’t want to believe his girl was suic****, bro used K.F as a scapegoat/lamb. Watch as one party get justice(T fam) whilst the other party (F fam) will never get justice
