Kaizer Chiefs face a major setback after injuries hit two experienced players. Brandon Petersen and Miguel Inacio remain doubtful for the Durban City clash on 15 March. Meanwhile, Amakhosi struggle after three consecutive defeats.

First, Chiefs lost the Soweto Derby to Orlando Pirates. Then they suffered another damaging defeat against Richards Bay on Tuesday.

Before that match, defender Miguel Inacio missed the lineup after an injury during the warm-up. Consequently, Bradley Cross replaced him in defence.

“I believe we were a little bit shaky in our defence,” Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze said.

“The injury of Miguel during the warm-up and the suspension of Zitha, you have to change the whole defence as well. I believe that mostly that cost us the game.”

Petersen Surgery Adds to Chiefs’ Problems

Kaizer Chiefs suffered another blow involving captain Brandon Petersen. The goalkeeper has been one of the team’s best players this season.

However, he missed the Soweto Derby after undergoing surgery last week. Doctors expect Petersen to return at the end of March. Therefore, Chiefs must cope without their leader for several matches.

Chiefs Still Searching for Solutions

Another long-term injury continues to trouble Amakhosi. Rushwin Dortley has missed over 40 matches after a knee injury last year. As a result, Chiefs relied on Aden McCarthy and Zitha Kwinika in defence.

Meanwhile, the team still hopes to rescue its difficult season. Kaizer Chiefs have 12 matches remaining in the campaign. A top-three finish could still save their season. However, anything less may be viewed as a major disappointment.
