‘Birthday Settings’ As Uzalo’s MaNgcobo Turns 43
MaNgcobo, as her fans call her because of her character in SABC1’s hit telenovela Uzalo, is turning 43 years old today.
Her real name is Dawn Thandeka King, she was born on this day October 1, 1977 in the town of Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natala, South Africa.
Fans of the SABC1 show which boasts over 9 million viewers were left shell shocked to learn that despite playing the roles of mother and daughter on the show, in real life, MaNgcobo and Nosipho (real-life Nompilo Maphumulo) have an age difference of less than 5 years.
Dawn who plays Lindiwe Xulu or MaNgcobo on Uzalo, and also played the character of Mazet on the Showmax series Lockdown says she found her love for acting during church plays and dramas at school.
She attended the Durban University of Technology, formerly Technikon Natal, where she completed her drama studies.
Dawn Thandeka King, a mother to five children, was married to businessman Jabulani Msomi for over 15 years up until they went their separate ways in 2017.
One of her daughters, a YouTuber, Musa Zwane took to Instagram this morning with her heartfelt message wishing her mother a happy day.
