The Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande addressed the National Assembly this week and reiterated government’s commitment to finding long-term solutions to the education crisis that has gripped South Africa.

In order to calm the storm that has already done a serious damage in South Africa, the Minister announced that the department has decided to drop school fees in initiation schools starting next year.

They will evaluate their decision after 15 years, if this move does not damage the economy, the government will then decide if they can drop fees in varsities.

Nzimande said the Fees Commission must find a lasting solution to funding higher education for the poor.

They intend to review funding formula for universities, rethinking just how universities should be funded.
