A Limpopo pastor was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting and killing his girlfriend when she called him a bad “blesser”, the National Prosecuting Authority said on Wednesday.
The woman asked him to buy her a television and he failed to do so, spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said.
“Thereafter the deceased started to insult him as he couldn’t be a good ‘blesser’. The deceased further mentioned that the accused was not a real man. He said he lost his temper and shot the deceased in the head.”
The Limpopo High Court sentenced Maphakele Reuben Phathakge, 50, on Tuesday.
The murder took place in the woman’s home in Greenside Phokoane village in the Sekhukhune district on February 12.
Phathakge pleaded guilty before Judge Nare Frans Kgomo.
He handed himself to the police after he failed to resuscitate her.
After his arrest, he was banished from the community and ordered to pay for the burial.
