The last time fans got to see award-winning afro-pop group Malaika performing was in 2013 at a Jazz Festival in Moretele Park‚ Pretoria. However‚ since then‚ lead singer Tshedi Mholo and bandmate Bongani Nchang have stopped performing together.

Speaking to TMG Entertainment‚ Tshedi revealed that Malaika is still on hold. She owned up to knowing what’s happening with the group‚ and believes it’s Sony’s duty to get the two members of the group in one room‚ so that they can find a way forward.

“Bongani and I are not on speaking terms. But we don’t even need to be friends. I just want to make music and revive Malaika. I know that he is busy with other projects‚ but if he could just make time‚” the singer said.

On the other hand‚ Tshedi has been doing well on her own. She recently launched her own record label‚ Leopard Queen Network‚ which will be managing her recording rights as a solo artist.

“It [Leopard Queen Network] is still a new baby and it needs to be nurtured. But this new venture is very exciting. It will enable me to focus on Tshedi‚ the brand‚ which is why I have decided not to sign any other artist‚” she explained.

However‚ she also admitted that launching her record label has not come without its obstacles. She draws from her experience and all the skills she’s picked up from Malaika and working with Sony Music Africa.

“Everything that I learnt with Malaika and the support that I received from everyone who groomed us has helped me in managing Leopard Queen Network. I have always been a hands-on person‚ so that has also helped to learn how things work.”
