Chidimma Adetshina Fights Deportation After Court Appearance In South Africa
Beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina is fighting to remain in South Africa after appearing in court in connection with an immigration matter. The former Miss South Africa finalist and Miss Universe Nigeria is due back in court next month as the Department of Home Affairs continues legal proceedings aimed at deporting her following her arrest earlier this month.
Chidimma Adetshina Returns To Court As Deportation Case Continues
According to eNCA, Adetshina appeared in the Cape Town Regional Court on 9 June after she was arrested in Summer Greens. The publication reports that she was released on a warning and is expected to return to court next month while the Department of Home Affairs pursues her deportation.
Home Affairs alleges that Adetshina was prohibited from entering South Africa but later entered the country through the Lebombo Border Post while allegedly presenting herself as a South African citizen.
The department has also stated that officials located Adetshina and her minor son in South Africa and allege that they were living in the country without legal status.
According to Sunday World, the court process remains ongoing and no final ruling has yet been made on the deportation proceedings.
Immigration Allegations Follow 2024 Citizenship Controversy
Adetshina, 25, attracted international attention in 2024 after reaching the finals of the Miss South Africa pageant before withdrawing amid widespread debate surrounding her citizenship.
The Department of Home Affairs subsequently declared her a prohibited person on 19 December 2024 under South Africa’s Immigration Act.
Her legal troubles follow a separate investigation involving her mother, who is facing allegations relating to identity theft. Those proceedings are separate from Adetshina’s immigration case.
According to eNCA, Home Affairs alleges that Adetshina later re-entered South Africa despite being prohibited from doing so.
“Adetshina is not allowed in the country but allegedly lied about her nationality and entered through the Lebombo border,” eNCA reported while outlining the allegations before the court.
The allegations remain before the courts, and Adetshina has not been convicted of any offence relating to the current immigration matter.
Beauty Queen’s Rise To International Fame
Adetshina was born on 8 January 2001 and later represented Nigeria after withdrawing from the Miss South Africa competition.
She won the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 title before competing at Miss Universe 2024, where she finished as first runner-up and was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.
Her latest court appearance means the immigration case will continue as South African authorities seek a legal outcome through the courts. The proceedings are ongoing, and the court will determine the next steps when the matter returns next month.
