Rhulani Mokwena, the head coach of Wydad Athletic Club, was attacked by fans during a high-stakes soccer match against RS Berkane, the current leaders of the Moroccan league. The incident occurred on Friday night at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, where hostile fans of the opposing team targeted Mokwena.

During the match, Mokwena was visibly agitated as he gestured angrily towards the Berkane fans who were throwing bottles at him. The incident was captured on video and shared widely on social media, sparking outrage among football enthusiasts.

Micky Jnr, a prominent African football journalist, posted the video on his Facebook page, expressing his dismay.
“I’m heartbroken to see this video. Rhulani Mokwena was targeted by the home fans during their game last night. They swore at him and threw bottles in an attempt to hit him,” he wrote.
Since joining Wydad Athletic Club, Mokwena has faced numerous challenges, including pressure from the management to collaborate with local assistant coaches to refine his strategies. This latest incident adds to the growing list of obstacles he has encountered in his coaching career.
Past Attacks
This is not the first time Mokwena has been targeted by fans. In October of the previous year, he was attacked by his own team’s supporters when Wydad underperformed in the Moroccan Botola Pro League. Fans threw bricks at him, highlighting the intense pressure and high expectations placed on coaches in top-tier football clubs.

Despite these challenges, Mokwena has remained steadfast in his approach. After the previous attack, he told the Moroccan media, “At big clubs, you have to win games. My philosophy and beliefs are mine, and I’ll die by them.”
