From Laughter to Lawbreaking: Comedian Livhuwani Madadzhe Arrested for Faking Mother’s Death for Insurance Money
Limpopo comedian Livhuwani Madadzhe, popularly known as SABC Livhu, has been arrested for faking his mother’s death to claim insurance money.
The shocking scheme unraveled when Madadzhe’s mother, Gladys Khomunala, visited the Sassa offices to apply for a pension grant and discovered she had been declared dead.
According to Zimoja, Khomunala, who is very much alive, was stunned to learn that her son had allegedly used a fake death certificate and even erected a tombstone at a gravesite to support his fraudulent claims.
This is not the first time Madadzhe has been accused of such deceit. In 2017, he was arrested alongside his then-girlfriend for the same offense but was released on R5,000 bail after the case was withdrawn.

Car Rental Fraud Adds to Comedian’s Legal Troubles
In addition to the insurance fraud, Madadzhe is also accused of defrauding a car rental company.
According to National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the comedian allegedly rented a BMW X3 from Avis and then posed as an agent for both Avis and Hertz on social media, offering vehicles for hire.
Madadzhe now faces additional charges of theft of a motor vehicle and fraud, further complicating his already tangled legal situation.
Murder Trial Looms Over Comedian’s Head
Madadzhe’s legal woes extend beyond fraud. He is currently on trial for the murder of his wife, Lindelani Nengovhela, whose body was discovered in a pit toilet at their home outside Thohoyandou in 2022.
Madadzhe was initially released on R50,000 bail but now faces a slew of charges, including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and defeating the ends of justice.
The murder trial is set to continue in the High Court on March 17, 2025, while his fraud case has been postponed to March 18, 2025, for a bail application.
Comedian’s Fall from Grace Leaves Community in Shock
Once a beloved figure in Limpopo’s entertainment scene, Madadzhe’s alleged crimes have left many in disbelief. His lawyer, Advocate Ntsako Hlongwane, confirmed that the comedian is currently in custody and will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate Court on March 18, 2025.
