In a rather tragic development, a couple was gunned down in broad daylight just outside Randburg Magistrates Court.

The husband and wife, who were crucial witnesses in an assault GBH case, were fatally shot just as one of them was set to face cross-examination in court.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed the heartbreaking news which happened on Wednesday to Zimoja. He revealed that the police have already opened a murder case.

Police have opened a case of murder and are actively searching for the suspects.

 According to the police report, the couple was walking towards the Randburg Magistrate’s Court when they were ambushed by the armed assailant, who shot them dead.

It is reported that the suspects were driving a black Mercedes Benz. The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage,” said Masondo.

Accused Officers Under Scrutiny for Double Homicide

Meanwhile, the four accused, though not formally charged with the double murder, are now under suspicion. The couple fell victim to a fatal shooting at a time when the four accused, all police officers, were set to face trial in the assault case.

The investigating officer in the case urged the court to probe the accused for the couple’s murder.

He stressed that the suspects, whose trial had reached a crucial stage, might have been responsible for the witnesses’ deaths.

Masondo recommended seizing the suspects’ cellphones and firearms and conducting gunpowder tests to gather crucial evidence.
