The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will call two more witnesses. They represent accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi. The case resumes at the Pretoria High Court on Friday.
Previously, Defence witness Villieria police station commander Colonel Silas Thoka completed his evidence in chief.
He addressed issues surrounding missing police records.
Dispute over cellphone evidence handling
Thoka testified that no official record exists in the occurrence book. However, claims suggest police confiscated items, including a cellphone, from Ntanzi. Additionally, he said no documentation shows transfer to the national cold case unit. Brigadier Bongani Gininda leads that investigation unit.
Thoka explained how such evidence should be registered. “Now, from what you have heard and from what I have just told you, the cellphone downloads play a very integral part in this matter. Can the cellphone that was recovered from the accused number two be registered as a prisoner’s property or as an exhibit in the SAP13? If it is deemed fit for evidential purposes, it will be registered as an exhibit. If it is only for the suspect’s personal property, it will be registered in the SAP22,” says Thoka.
