Deputy Principal Hospitalised After Getting Shot Outside School Gate in Daveyton
A deputy principal from Dinoto Technical Secondary School in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, was shot and injured outside the school gate on Friday morning.
The chilling shooting incident has triggered widespread shock and strong condemnation from the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE).

Attack at the School Gate
According to Kaya959, the shooting occurred as the deputy principal arrived at the school premises. Preliminary reports indicate that an unknown assailant opened fire at close range, leaving the educator with serious gunshot wounds.
He was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. His condition has not yet been officially confirmed.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident, but no arrests had been made at the time of publishing.
NSC Exams Continue Despite Shock
Despite the traumatic scene, the school continued with the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination schedule under heightened supervision.
The decision was taken to ensure that the Grade 12 pupils were not further disadvantaged during the critical assessment period.
Counselling Support Deployed
The GDE responded by sending psychosocial support teams, including officials from the Ekurhuleni North District, to the school. The teams are providing trauma counselling to learners, educators, and support staff affected by the incident.
MEC Condemns ‘Senseless Act of Violence’
Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed deep concern and outrage, emphasising that schools must remain safe spaces.
“We are deeply shocked by this incident. Schools are meant to be safe spaces for both learners and educators. The Department condemns this senseless act of violence in the strongest possible terms,” Chiloane said.
He also wished the injured deputy principal a full recovery and called for police to speed up investigations to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
