DR MPHO PHALATSE SLAMS COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AT NIGHTCLUBS

Pearl Thusi was not happy with the Johannesburg mayor’s tweet on Saturday 4 December. Dr Mpho Phalatse made history by becoming the first female mayor in the City of Johannesburg in November. She is a qualified medical doctor who ventured into the business world and is now in politics.

She took to Twitter to express that night clubs had not been screening patrons for COVID-19, completing attendance registers or restricting the amount of people entering. Phalatse showed concern because South Africa is expected to approach the fourth wave and a new COVID-19 variant – Omicron was detected on 25 November.

“I’m deeply disturbed by the level of lawlessness I witnessed on this raid last night. None of the night clubs visited were screening patrons for COVID, completing attendance registers, managing numbers, ensuring ventilation as well as other COVID protocols. No more!

@JoburgMP,” she tweeted.

PEARL THUSI: ‘DID YOU SCREEN AND HAVE REGISTERS FOR RALLIES?’

Pearl is known for being outspoken on Twitter including her views on politics. The Queen Sono star did not seem to like Phalatse’s comments and clapped back at the tweet. Pearl compared the nightclubs to rallies asking if the mayor had screened people during rallies or had registers.

“Did you screen and have registers for rallies?” she tweeted.

Tweeps fired back at Pearl in the comments section of the tweet.

“This thing of us questioning everything as if we know or understand covid better will never help. Ramaphosa has the power to do anything he wants so its either we comply or he will close for December,” wrote @E_Hacker21.

While others thought it was a good question.

“Aunty Pearl is that kind of Aunty in the family in which she stands with truth even when she stands alone… On the behalf of South Africans we love you,” wrote @Tshisi_Mawela.
