Former Springboks rugby star Elton Jantjies has reportedly found himself homeless after being asked to vacate his friend’s residence in Bryanston, a suburb in northern Johannesburg.
According to recent reports, the ex-rugby player, known for his off-field controversies, could not meet his monthly financial obligations for his bond, leading to a difficult living situation.
Brief Stay with His Mother
According to ZiMoja, Jantjies briefly moved in with his mother after his financial troubles began. However, this arrangement was short-lived. Sources indicate that the former Lions fly-half struggled with the limitations of living with family, such as being unable to entertain guests or host parties. As a result, Jantjies sought refuge with an old school friend, retired rugby player Ruan Smith.
Unfortunately, Jantjies’ stay with Smith also ended in conflict. Reports suggest that the 34-year-old’s behaviour, particularly his tendency to revert to old habits, eventually led to his eviction.

Erratic Behavior and Troubling Habits
According to those familiar with the situation, Jantjies’ erratic behaviour became difficult for Smith to handle. Sources describe how Jantjies frequently entertained sex workers at the home, and both he and his visitors engaged in drug use. Additionally, his non-stop partying and loud music, often played late into the night, caused further friction.
“Ruan is a professional businessman and couldn’t continue living with the constant disruptions. The parties, the strangers coming in and out of the house, and the non-stop noise, it all became too much for him to handle.”
Allegations of Dangerous Associates
Concerns about Jantjies’ new circle of acquaintances also added to the tension. It has been claimed that the rugby star has recently become involved with a questionable crowd, reportedly associating with individuals who are engaged in illicit activities. One source mentioned that Jantjies confided in Smith about an interest in the gold market, but his involvement appeared to be with suspicious individuals, including hackers.
