The Drama

Last week, DJ Sbu, whose real name is Sibusiso Leope, faced backlash after a video of him interacting with a street vendor went viral. In the video, DJ Sbu is seen waving down a vendor from his car and holding out a R200 note.

He asks the vendor for MoFaya, his energy drink brand. When the vendor replies that he doesn’t sell MoFaya, DJ Sbu pulls his hand back into the car and shouts, “You don’t have MoFaya… You are losing R200. What type of a hustler is this,” before driving away.

The video sparked outrage on social media, with many people criticising DJ Sbu for ridiculing the vendor. Tweeps argued that his actions were disrespectful and undermined the vendor’s hustle. Some even called for a boycott of MoFaya.

DJ Sbu took note of the backlash on social media. He reacted:

You guys like dragging me for no reason. Ngenzeni manje?

Earlier this morning, he drove to the vendor he scolded last week and took cases of the MoFaya energy drink with him.

The vendor stood in awe as DJ Sbu took out eight cases of his drink from his car before giving him the R200 he refused to give the vendor last week.

The incident elicited varied responses online.

Sandile:

X people are already looking for another criticism angle 📐. 😂”

We all make mistakes, you owned up. The brother will have 100% profit from the stock you gave.

Ratsatsi:

What matters now is that he’s smiling and happy about it. Whether you did it wrong or right, only God knows. Thank you.
