DJ Zandimaz, whose real name is Zandile Zithulele, is making a remarkable return to the music industry after going through brain surgery earlier this year. Known for her versatility as a DJ, singer, and lawyer, she had to step away from the limelight to focus on her health after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The artist, famous for her single “Emathandweni,” revealed that she underwent brain surgery in March to remove the tumour and is now gradually re-entering the music scene with renewed energy and gratitude.

In 2022, while touring the United Kingdom, Zandimaz experienced an unexpected seizure, which was followed by another one just weeks later while she was in Zambia. Concerned about these incidents, she sought medical advice, which led to the shocking discovery of a brain tumour.

Sharing the news about her condition, the “Maphupho” singer admitted that it took her a full year of battling depression and wrestling with uncertainty before she finally accepted her situation and made the brave decision to undergo surgery.

The surgery, which lasted seven hours, was a success, though it required a challenging recovery period that included five days in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Despite the difficulties, Zandimaz remained resilient and continued to nurture her passion for music by writing new songs during her recovery at home.

Zandimaz has already started performing at various venues to reconnect with her fans. She recently unveiled her latest single, titled Bawo at Propaganda in Pretoria, to mark her official return. The new track, a gospel-infused piece, reflects her journey and expresses her gratitude to God for seeing her through such a difficult time.

“I am not planning to release a full album just yet, but I am focusing on releasing singles. Earlier this month, I dropped Bawo, a gospel song that talks about my experience and how thankful I am to God for being with me. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it feels amazing to see people resonate with my music.”

The talented artist mentioned that she has recovered about 80% and feels strong enough to perform and create music. Zandimaz is eager to share more of her story and artistry with her audience.
