“Don’t Get Played”: Podcast and Chill Busts Fake Producer’s Email Scam

Podcast and Chill, hosted by MacG and Sol Phenduka, has alerted its audience and stakeholders about a scam email that is circulating on the internet.

The email claims to be from Dudu, the show’s producer, and invites people to be guests on the popular South African entertainment podcast for a fee of up to R57 000 ($3000).

The podcast management posted a statement on their social media and YouTube account on Friday, 11 August, denouncing the email as a fraud and advising people to be vigilant and verify any invitations from the show. They also clarified that they do not send any emails or messages via Gmail accounts or any unauthorized email address.

The statement read:

“Chillers NOTE‼️ There’s A SCAMMER going around portraying as our producer Dudu. Please note that we (as Podcast and Chill Network) do not send any emails or messages via GMAIL ACCOUNTs or any unauthorised email address. Be on the lookout for any suspicious emails or communications of some sort… To verify, we do advise you to contact the relevant information in our description box on YouTube.”

 

 

Podcast and Chill urged its fans and collaborators to support and respect the show by subscribing to their YouTube channel, following them on social media, and sharing their content with their friends. They have also thanked them for their loyalty and love.

Podcast and Chill recently reached one million subscribers and celebrated the milestone at Sun Arena, where MacG proposed to his long-term girlfriend Naledi.

The podcast is not the only victim of cybercrime in South Africa, which ranks sixth among countries with the highest cybercrime. According to Interpol data, cybercrime cost the South African economy an estimated R10 337 billion in 2016.
