Ebenhaezer Dibakwane’s Death Suspected to Be Suicide, Family Confirms

The family of beloved South African comedian and actor Ebenhaezer “Ebby” Dibakwane has confirmed his death in an emotional statement.

Dibakwane, who died on Friday, 7 March 2025, at the age of 31, is suspected to have died by suicide, according to preliminary findings.

Struggles with Depression

In their statement, the family revealed that Dibakwane had battled depression for several years, a struggle that contrasted with his public image as a source of joy and laughter.

Poignantly, Ebby was well-known for his talent of making people laugh, yet he struggled with depression. While his passing is heartbreaking, we pray that this tragedy reminds us all of the importance of looking out for one another and prioritising mental health, including seeking professional help when needed,” the family said.

Post-Mortem Examination Expected to Confirm Cause of Death

The family acknowledged that preliminary evidence suggests Dibakwane’s death was a suicide, though the post-mortem examination is expected to confirm the findings.

Funeral and Memorial Details Announced

The Dibakwane family also shared details about his funeral and memorial services. The award-winning comedian will be laid to rest on Friday in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, at the Church Unlimited. A memorial service will take place tomorrow at the Bioscope Cinema in Johannesburg.
