Ekurhuleni Municipality Senior Auditor Mpho Mafole Gunned Down in Kempton Park
Ekurhuleni municipality has been plunged into shock and mourning following the killing of Mpho Mafole, the city’s group divisional head for corporate and forensic audits.
Mafole was gunned down by unknown assailants while driving along the R23 in Kempton Park on Monday evening.

Police Confirm Fatal Shooting
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the incident to SowetanLive and said authorities were alerted at approximately 5:55pm.
“Officers found Mafole lying in his car with gunshot wounds,” Nevhuhulwi said. “The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and police investigations continue.”
No arrests have been reported as of Tuesday morning.
Municipality Promises Support and Cooperation
In an internal letter to staff, the city’s head of communications, Phakamile Mbengashe, conveyed condolences and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement.
“We are engaging with the relevant authorities and will provide further updates as soon as new information becomes available.
“We understand that this news may cause concern among staff. We wish to assure you that the city is committed to ensuring a safe and secure working environment for all employees,” Mbengashe said.
Support Measures for Affected Employees
Mbengashe also confirmed that additional support and counselling services would be made available to staff affected by the tragedy.
“All necessary security protocols remain in place, and additional support will be made available to staff who may need it during this difficult time,” he said.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
