The zoo was full of members of the public who had gone to experience wildlife. A monkey then walked on top of the perimeter fence, ignoring the crowd staring at it.

One bold woman then caressed it, and the triggered animal turned and grabbed one innocent man before biting his face. It then let go and continued walking as the man turned to walk away with a scar.

Following the attack, staff members promptly attended to the injured man, treating his wounds and discussing potential vaccinations to prevent further complications. The aggressive monkey was identified as a Tibetan macaque, notorious for its troublesome behaviour on Emei Mountain.

Tibetan macaques, the largest species in the macaque family found in China, have gained a reputation for their bold and problematic interactions with tourists. These monkeys frequently snatch bags, food, and other items from visitors. They usually leap onto unsuspecting tourists, make provocative faces, and then run off, often leading to injuries. Severe incidents have occurred, including cases where they bit off fingers.

The troublesome behaviour of these monkeys is exacerbated by tourists who irresponsibly feed them. This feeding not only fosters a need for interaction but also encourages the monkeys’ beggarly behaviour, leading to increased population and territorial aggression due to their cramped living spaces.
