Orlando Pirates trickster Thabo Rakhale’s skills show against Kaizer Chiefs on the weekend was labelled as the “most outrageously pointless showboating in football history” by English media.
The 25-year-old winger showed off some trickery during his side’s 2-0 win over their Soweto rivals in the Nedbank Cup last 32 round on Saturday.
In the dying minutes of the game and with his side already well in the lead, ‘Jomo’ found some space out on the right-hand side of the field and proceeded to toy with Amakhosi defender Morgan Gould
“The showboat is a very particular football skill,” the article read.
“A proper showboat doesn’t just see a player perform a brilliant trick. It can only be a real showboat if said brilliant trick has no impact on the game.
“With his side two goals up and the match in injury time, Pirates midfielder Thabo Rakhale thought he’d do some showing off.”
This is the second time the winger’s skills have made headlines overseas, and it will be interesting to see if the English press keep an eye on him for any more outrageous tricks.
