Family’s Nightmare: Doctor Shockingly Decapitates Baby During Birth

A Georgia couple has filed a lawsuit against a doctor and a hospital, claiming that their baby was decapitated during a “nightmare” delivery last month.

How The Tragedy Unfolded

Jessica Ross and Treveon Taylor said they went to Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia, on July 9 to have their son, Treveon Isaiah Taylor Jr. According to the lawsuit, their doctor, Tracey St. Julian, attempted to deliver the baby vaginally, but the baby got stuck due to shoulder dystocia, a condition where the baby’s shoulders become lodged in the birth canal.

Instead of performing a timely cesarean section, the lawsuit alleges that St. Julian used “ridiculously excessive force” on the baby’s head and neck, causing his decapitation. The lawsuit also accuses several nurses of trying to cover up the incident by wrapping the baby’s body and head in a blanket and discouraging the parents from getting an autopsy.

The parents’ attorneys said they filed the lawsuit in Clayton County Superior Court, seeking unspecified damages for medical malpractice, wrongful death, and emotional distress. They also held a news conference in Atlanta, where they described the ordeal as “horrific” and “heartbreaking”.

Southern Regional Medical Center denied the allegations in a statement, saying it could not discuss specific patients due to privacy laws. The hospital said it was “committed to providing compassionate, quality care to every single patient” and that its “heartfelt thoughts and prayers” were with the family.

St. Julian, who is a board-certified obstetrician and gynaecologist, has not commented on the lawsuit or the allegations. According to her website, she has been practising in the Atlanta area since 2005 and offers various services including low- and high-risk obstetric care.

The Clayton County Medical Examiner’s Office said it was still working to complete the baby’s autopsy and determine the cause of death. The office’s director, Brian Byers, told CNN that he could not comment on the case until the autopsy report was finalized.
