Five family members were killed in a car accident while they were rushing an injured relative to medical care.
The vehicle carrying six occupants crashed violently in the early hours of Sunday morning. The group was reportedly transporting a family member who had suffered stab wounds and physical assault when the tragedy occurred.

Emergency responders arrived at Eddie Hagen Drive near Durban before dawn to find a scene of complete devastation. According to ALS Paramedics representative Garrith Jamieson, the car had struck a concrete drainage structure with such force that the vehicle split into two sections.
“Our teams arrived to find absolute carnage,” Jamieson reported. “Initial assessment confirmed a single-vehicle collision with multiple casualties.”

Fatalities and Survivors
Medical personnel confirmed four deceased at the scene. During rescue operations, another victim suffered cardiac arrest and could not be revived despite extensive life-saving attempts, bringing the death toll to five.

The sole survivor, believed to be the originally injured family member, was transported urgently to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Their current condition remains unknown.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have cordoned off the accident site as forensic teams conduct their investigation. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, though official causes remain undetermined.
Local traffic officials have advised motorists to seek alternate routes while cleanup and investigative work continues. The South African Police Service collision unit expects the roadway to remain closed for several hours.
