Former Generations actor Roderick Jaftha, best known for his portrayal of Glen Majozi on the popular soap opera, pleads for help to make ends meet. Struggling to cover basic living expenses, including the R2,500 rent for the single room where he resides with his wife and four children, the actor finds himself in desperate need of support.

A Struggle for Survival

In an interview with Zimoja, Jaftha revealed, “I don’t even have food for my kids today. I am doing my best to find something, but it’s been extremely tough.” His situation worsened after his wife lost her job, leaving the family reliant on the generosity of friends and relatives to get by. Jaftha further expressed his challenges, noting, “I’m finding it hard to keep up with the rent. I have small children, and two of them are still in school.”

The actor has been actively searching for work but shared that his efforts have been met with limited success. “Most productions these days are filmed in vernacular languages, and since I only speak Afrikaans and English, it has been difficult to secure roles,” Jaftha explained. Despite securing occasional small gigs, they have been insufficient to cover his growing expenses.

To seek assistance, Jaftha recently reached out to the Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture, Gayton MacKenzie, by email. However, weeks later, he has not received any response from the department.

Support From the Community

Fortunately, Jaftha’s plight has not gone unnoticed. Masingita Masunga, a well-known figure in the community, shared his story on her Facebook page, drawing attention to his dire situation. In a heartfelt post for #HeritageMonth, Masunga wrote,

“Sometimes, life brings personal challenges, but I choose to let my purpose guide me. Today, former Generations actor Roderick Jaftha reached out to me. He is in extreme hardship, with no food and children to care for. If you want to assist, please contact 0665530535 for his account details.”

Masunga’s appeal has resonated with many. Jaftha responded to the outpouring of support on her page, stating, “I am truly going through tough times, and it’s even harder when my kids are suffering.”

Challenges in Reaching Out to Former Contacts

Many have asked why Jaftha hasn’t sought help from Mfundi Vundla, the creator of Generations, the show that gave him his big break. When asked, Jaftha admitted that his relationship with Vundla wasn’t ideal, which has made him hesitant to approach him directly for assistance or work opportunities.
