Tshedi Mholo, best known as the former lead singer of the iconic South African music group Malaika, has added another feather to her cap. The celebrated artist recently graduated with a paralegal qualification from the University of Cape Town. Mholo proudly shared the news with her followers on Instagram, showcasing her commitment to personal growth and lifelong learning.
“Serve them chilled 7 to us my Luwellens. BA (ED)—University of the North West. Music Business—Boston City Campus (@Samro) Paralegal Practitioner Course—University of Cape Town Baa peinelwa.”
A Grueling Five-Month Journey
Reflecting on her latest achievement, Mholo explained that the paralegal program was an intense five-month course. “The journey was nothing short of challenging,” she shared in an interview with Sunday World. Each week, she submitted assignments, and the fully online classes demanded consistent effort and focus.

“This course cost me around R18,000, and every cent was worth it. Balancing my music gigs and academic commitments wasn’t easy, but I’m thrilled my hard work paid off,” she added.
Eyeing a Law Degree
While proud of her accomplishment, Mholo sees this as just the beginning. Her next goal is to earn a law degree, although financial constraints may delay this dream.
“Education empowers me, and I’m not done yet. However, I have two children preparing for tertiary education, so I need to prioritize their futures. Once they’ve graduated, I’ll resume my studies.”
Despite the challenges, she remains optimistic. “If I earn enough through music, we can all study together,” she added, emphasizing her commitment to both her family and personal ambitions.

A History of Academic Success
This is not Mholo’s first academic qualification. In 2000, she earned a Bachelor of Education degree, majoring in arts, from North-West University. After working as a teacher for a few years, she shifted her focus to music. This decision eventually led to her becoming a household name in South Africa.
In 2022, she further enriched her knowledge by completing a Music Business course at Boston City Campus, funded by the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO). Despite a busy schedule filled with performances, she remained committed to her studies.
