A former police officer has been arrested again for his girlfriend’s murder retrial after the conviction was overturned before.
The disgraced traffic officer William Mosiane has been taken back into custody as prosecutors prepare to retry him for the 2021 killing of his partner, Dimpho Motlodi.
The former police officer thought he was walking scot free after the gruesome murder that happened four years ago. He is however set to have his day in court again over the same matter.
Case Background: Violent Crime Shocks Community
The North West Provincial traffic department employee made headlines four years ago when he allegedly shot Motlodi five times at point-blank range – an attack witnessed by their then 9-year-old child. Court records indicate Mosiane subsequently fled with their son before turning himself in to authorities.

Legal Twist Overturns Original Verdict
While a 2023 trial resulted in a life sentence, the conviction was unexpectedly nullified on appeal. Judicial sources confirm the appellate court found procedural irregularities regarding the absence of assessors during Mosiane’s initial trial before Magistrate Paul Moeng.
“The accused was apprehended Saturday and will be formally charged Monday,” confirmed National Prosecuting Authority representative Sivenathi Gunya.
Victim’s Family Reels From Development
The surprise reappearance of Mosiane has reportedly caused significant distress to Motlodi’s relatives, who believed her killer remained incarcerated. Family members expressed shock upon learning of his temporary freedom following the appeal.
The deceased’s father shared that he was shocked after he bumped into Mosiane in Rustenburg without knowing that he was released.
