In a surprising legal development, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has provisionally withdrawn murder charges against Xolani Khumalo, the former presenter of Moja Love’s controversial show Sizok’thola.

The decision comes nearly two years after the July 2023 incident in Katlehong, where Khumalo and his production team were involved in a confrontation with alleged drug dealer Robert “Kicks” Varrie that turned fatal. The Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni has been handling the high-profile case that has divided public opinion.

Khumalo, who became nationally recognized for his aggressive approach to exposing drug operations through his television program, faced multiple charge,s including murder, robbery, and property damage following Varrie’s death.

Legal representative Advocate Zola Majavu emphasized that his client maintains his innocence.

“Mr. Khumalo was performing a public service in combating the drug epidemic plaguing our communities,” Majavu told reporters.

Case Remains Open for Further Investigation

While the withdrawal offers temporary relief for Khumalo, prosecutors clarified this doesn’t represent a full acquittal. The NPA reserves the right to reinstate charges should new evidence emerge during their ongoing investigation.

The Varrie family has expressed disappointment with the development. “We haven’t gotten answers about what really happened to Robert,” a family member shared with local media, calling for a thorough examination of all individuals present during the incident.
