The tragedy occurred shortly after provincial authorities reported successful operations during a multi-agency roadblock campaign. These operations had resulted in numerous arrests for offenses including drunk driving, stolen vehicle possession, and drug-related crimes.

“MEC Duma has mandated intensified enforcement of our Alufakwa and Zero Tolerance safety programs,” Sibiya stated. “We will maintain heightened RTI visibility and extend our road safety campaigns through year-end and beyond to prevent further loss of life.”
