Esteemed founder of the Crown Gospel Music Awards and beloved Ukhozi FM presenter Zanele Mbokazi is reported to be in critical health condition, and her friends and family have organized a prayer service for her.

Family members, friends, musicians, and colleagues are set to congregate at the Sandton Assemblies of God Church in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, to offer prayers for Zanele Mbokazi. The event, as reported by Sunday World, is scheduled for the evening of Friday, June 7.

Battle with Lung Cancer

Last month, Mbokazi, who hosts the popular gospel show Eshilo on Ukhozi FM every Sunday at 9:00 AM, was admitted to the hospital following a sudden loss of voice and breath while on air.

“Zanele has been experiencing health issues since Sunday, April 21. She couldn’t host her show, and MaMkhize Ndlovu stepped in. She felt severe pain but seemed to improve by Friday, April 26, and even attended an event in Pietermaritzburg. However, her condition worsened again on Sunday, yet she bravely completed her show,” explained her PR manager, Nonjabulo Mdluli.

“Zanele is currently under medical care and is showing signs of improvement. We ask everyone to keep her in their prayers,” Mdluli added.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Following extensive medical tests, Zanele was diagnosed with lung cancer. “Doctors discovered that Zanele has lung cancer,” her husband, Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule, informed Ukhozi FM listeners.

Two weeks after her diagnosis, Mdluli confirmed that Mbokazi had been discharged from the hospital. However, Sunday World reports that her condition remains critical.

Community Support

The wife of gospel singer Soso Maholwana, one of the event’s organizers, shared her thoughts on the situation: “This journey is not easy. Zanele really needs our prayers.” She continued, “She has given so much to the community; it’s our turn to support her in her time of need. Even Bishop Nkambule emphasized the need for prayers.”

Prayer Service Details

The prayer service will feature notable figures such as Reverend Benjamin Dube, Solly Mahlangu, Sipho Makhabane, and Rebecca Malope. Metro FM host Thami Ngubane is expected to serve as the MC for the evening.

Mdluli informed ZiMoja that the public is welcome to attend the event, which will commence at 4:00 PM. She mentioned that Mbokazi, currently undergoing treatment, might attend if she feels up to it.

“We hope she will be able to join us, but it all depends on her health on the day. Regarding her return to work, our primary concern is her full recovery,” Mdluli concluded.
