From Fugitive to Fatal End: Accused Murderer Abducted From Police During Loadshedding And Killed By Mob

A man who brutally murdered his girlfriend was kidnapped from the police during loadshedding and killed by community members in Mpumalanga.

The tragic incident occurred at night on Sunday, August 15, 2023. In July, Clive Khosa, 32, was accused of killing his girlfriend, Khanyisile Ngobeni. He hacked her with a machete before slicing her throat with a knife. He then fled to another village.

The police released Khosa’s identity and photo on August 10, appealing to him to report to the nearest police station to assist in the case. However, the police said their efforts to locate him were futile until they received a tip-off about his abduction.

As Khosa walked around on Sunday, community members in Mkhuhlu recognised him from pictures making round on social media, and they captured him.

They then called Utah villagers to come and collect him. When the villagers arrived, they thrashed Khosa and left with him before the police arrived.

A community member who wanted to remain anonymous told Zimoja:

“Members of the community were gathered at a local sports field with tyres, petrol, stones, and other weapons waiting for Khosa’s arrival from Mkhuhlu. When the vehicles with Khosa eventually arrived in Utah, the police were already there. Hell broke loose as the police attempted to rescue him from the angry mob. Suddenly loadshedding came into effect, and Khosa’s luck ran out immediately. Khosa was taken to another village where he was assaulted to death.”

Police Confirm Tragic Incident

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala confirmed the murder and revealed that a witness in the death of Khanyisile Ngobeni was also killed. His body was found in the Utah Grazing Camp in Mhala, with his hands, feet and neck tied with wires and covered with bruises.

Mpumalanga police commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela urged the community to report wanted people to authorities and not to take the law into their own hands.
