By now you’ve probably heard the news that Gareth Cliff will be leaving South African Idols at the end of this season, bringing an 11-year tenure on the show to an end

Gareth will be missed, it has to be said, but a more pressing matter is finding his replacement in time for the next season.

To their credit, M-Net has done a great job of hiring judges in the past few months. Unathi was an excellent addition to the show while Somizi really livened things up when he joined in 2015. Randall is a firm fixture and gels into the show’s dynamics rather effortlessly.

So who would you add to this eclectic mix? Here are our choices:

Arthur Mafokate

Arthur is loud and outspoken, but he definitely knows a thing or two about the music industry. He’s also extremely cool in front of a camera.

Kelly Khumalo

Queen Kelly will slay us all as an Idols judge. Can you imagine how fiery she will be with contestants who give her stick?

Karen Zoid

If you are looking for someone with music and sales experience, someone who knows what it takes to succeed in the business, then Karen Zoid is the perfect choice.

Arye Kellman

Arye Kellman works with Gareth at Touch Central (and did so at Cliff Central too). He’s an outside choice but he’d add a fresh, youthful element to the show.
Kenny Kunene

We can see it now: sushi on the judge’s tables, women accompanying him everywhere he goes, and boisterous commentary on every performance. Kenny would make a killer judge.

Tbo Touch

Another member from the “Central” family; Tbo Touch is one of SA’s biggest celebs and will definitely match the star power that Gareth brought to the show.

Mshoza

Wouldn’t this be the perfect way to cap a comeback year? Mshoza is one of SA’s biggest celebs once again and her joining the show would definitely boost ratings!
