A 46-year-old police officer stands accused of attempted murder after allegedly setting his girlfriend’s home ablaze in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Authorities report that when the woman failed to respond to his knocking, the enraged officer allegedly set fire to the window curtains. The flames quickly engulfed the modest dwelling, leaving the victim with burn injuries before neighbors could rescue her from the inferno.

Police Officer Arrested After He Torches Girlfriend’s Home
Alert community members immediately contacted emergency services, summoning both police and medical personnel to the scene. Investigators successfully tracked down the suspect within 24 hours of the attack.
Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the rapid response, stating: “This case demonstrates our zero-tolerance approach to gender-based violence, even when the alleged perpetrator wears a uniform.”
This case is not the first one this year of a man burning his lover’s house in retaliation. The police are warning people to resolve their issues without using violence.
Legal Proceedings Begin With The Accused In Custody
The accused officer remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face formal charges of attempted murder and arson. The victim continues to receive medical treatment for her injuries.
