We are both bank robbers”: Gayton McKenzie Throws Shade at Julius Malema, Accuses Him of “Robbing Banks”

Patriotic Alliance leader and Minister of Sport, Art and Culture, Gayton McKenzie has thrown shade at EFF leader Julius Malema — accusing him of living a lavish lifestyle funded by corruption and comparing his own criminal past to the controversial VBS scandal.

Speaking during a Facebook Live seen by MDN,  McKenzie didn’t mince his words as he branded Malema a fellow “bank robber,” referencing allegations that the EFF leader benefited from millions looted from the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank.

“We Are Both Bank Robbers”

In a provocative statement, McKenzie said:

“Do you know what Malema and I have in common? We are both bank robbers. He was VBS. We are ex-criminal colleagues. I used to rob banks… he is robbing banks too.”

McKenzie was referring to the long-standing allegations that Malema and then-EFF deputy Floyd Shivambu defrauded the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank of millions of rands, allegedly to finance their lavish lifestyles.

“You Live Like a Billionaire”

Continuing his verbal attack, McKenzie questioned Malema’s source of wealth and transparency:

We stay in expensive suburbs. How do you afford this on [your] salary? You’re a stupid thing. You live a billionaire lifestyle, but you can’t prove how do you get your money?”

“EFF Is in the ICU”

The minister didn’t hold back when sharing his thoughts on the EFF as a political party, taking a jab at its perceived lack of direction:

The EFF is in the ICU. They’re waiting for the day the machine is shut off. There is no politics; there is just gossip. That leader, Malema, is like an old auntie who just gossips. He doesn’t talk about his party, his policies, or what they’re going to do.”
