Well-known traditional healer Gogo Maweni’s brother-in-law, Lindani Mgube, appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on 5 February and will remain in custody until 12 February, pending a formal bail hearing.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed that Mgube is being charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Mafilika and Kubheka. Both victims were reportedly close to Makhotso Lee-Anne Mofokeng, better known as Gogo Maweni.
The Crime Scene and Investigation
According to the police report, the incident occurred in Orange Farm last year. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a female victim with fatal gunshot wounds. She was declared dead by paramedics at the scene. The second victim was transported to a nearby medical centre but later succumbed to their injuries.

The case was classified as a double murder, prompting a full-scale investigation by members of the Gauteng Investigation Unit, K9 Sedibeng, Compol Sedibeng, and Afriguard.
How the Suspect Was Caught
Investigators traced the suspect’s last known location to Kanana Park in Majazana. Although Mgube was not present at the time, his brothers were found at the residence. The police used them to lure Mgube to the De Deur Police Station, where he was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of murder.
Police continue investigating the case to gather more evidence and ensure justice is served for the victims and their families.
Family Reaction and Ongoing Updates
An anonymous source revealed that the murder of Mafilika forced some family members to go into hiding out of fear for their safety. The family expressed relief at the arrest, even though it took considerable time for authorities to track down the suspect.
